JUAN VARGAS PROUDLY SUPPORTS HOUSE-PASSED DREAM AND PROMISE ACT
Washington, D.C. (March 18, 2021) – Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51) released the following statement after the House passage of H.R. 6. Dream and Promise Act.
The Dream and Promise Act would create a pathway to citizenship for eligible Dreamers and secure permanent residency for those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure status. Rep. Vargas joined Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-40) as an original co-sponsor introducing the Dream and Promise Act on March 3, 2021.
"I applaud the House for passing the bipartisan Dream and Promise Act. Dreamers contribute to our everyday life and economy, and embody the very best of our American values. They are our neighbors, friends, and colleagues. In addition, many Dreamers and TPS holders are essential workers who have, and continue fighting against COVID-19. They have every right to gain permanent legal status, we must create a realistic pathway to citizenship for them.
"As a son of immigrant parents and a first-generation American, I believe in the American Dream. Furthermore, I believe that our Dreamers deserve a shot at achieving this dream. I urge the Senate to pass H.R. 6 so that our Dreamers may continue contributing to the country they call home.”
Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County, and California’s entire U.S.-Mexico border. Vargas was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is currently serving his fifth term in Congress. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee.
